Are Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8 and Brooks Beast the same type of running shoe?
I have flat feet and I’m a large frame. I run very well in Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8. I recently discovered a slightly worn pair of Brooks Beast in my closet. I’m not sure how or why. They look familar, so perhaps I misplaced them when I moved. Are these shoes similar in support and makeup that if I can wear Adrenaline GTS, the Brooks Beast should work well for me too?
The Beast is the Gold Standard of motion control shoes and is a step UP from the Adrenalines. If you can run in the Adrenalines, chances are you’d be fine in the Beasts as long as they’re sized right. The Beast is really meant for big runners (sounds like you) with low arches who need motion control. I’m a lightweight (140 lbs) but I run in the Beasts, best shoe I’ve ever owned. I actually came upon your question while researching the opposite–wondering if I could use the Adrenaline (partly just to give me options when buying shoes in case I can’t find Beasts on sale). I agree with the other answer on orthotics also. I just use SuperFeet, which you can buy off the shelf but I get ones made up–they heat & vacuum-mold them to your foot, about $100 vs 300-800 for custom orthotics (but those would be worth it if that’s what you need to run). I’ve been running 30 years, have had lots of injuries and tried lots of shoes, the Beasts are great for me, they might be for you, also. Good Luck and Keep On Running!!!!

What shoe size should I get for a running shoe?
I had to order my shoes online so I couldn’t really try them on. So I ordered size 11 of Brook’s Glycerin 8. I received them today and they fit perfectly. My toes are perfectly aligned to the front of the shoe. I read that its best to get a running shoe 1/2 size larger than what you originally wear. So am I better off getting a size 11.5?
I’m kind of sketchy on running in a shoe larger than my size because I got very bad shin splints from my old shoes. Even though those shoes were 2 sizes larger than what I should wear (long story). However, I’m 17 and probably still have room to grow and am worried if my feet grow any larger within 4 months (I’ll log 500 miles on them by then) because I will no longer be able to fit in them. I don’t want that to happen because the shoes were $130
You need about a thumbs width of distance between your toes and the end of your shoe. But your feet will swell during a run, more so if it is hot. Since you already have the shoes I would recommend running on the treadmill for a few miles and then see how they fit. If you don’t have the toe space you need at the end of your run then return them and go 1/2 a size up.
There are many places to find volleyball shoes, but your local mall is not one of them. They have cross training shoes but rarely have volleyball shoes in footlocker, lady footlocker, champs, Sears, Macys, or any other of those chains. Big 5 will sometimes have volleyball shoes but it really depends on the location. Believe it or not discount shop chain locations will usually have last seasons shoes. Which gives you a cheaper pair of great shoes! Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls will often have a good variety of volleyball shoes in the fall. You may have to go to a few of the locations if you are lucky enough to have multiple near you, but they have them. I got my Adidas Vuelos there, which is my preferred pair of volleyball shoes, they are wider set for my big feet.

Be sure you know how the shoes run size wise, they are often a half size larger or smaller than the brands you are normally wear. Older girls usually wear a 9 or 10 for most volleyball shoes, if you are younger then 7 or 8. The discount chains will have the larger sizes, smaller ones are tougher, in the alternative Eastbay and Amazon will have the smaller sizes and not the larger. Happy hunting for shoes. I think you’d wear a 5.5 in men’s sizes. You should try on sizes 5-6 and see which matches you the best. By the way, there is a size chart on that web page and it says a size 7 in women’s is a size 5.5 in men’s. Hope I helped!

St. Michaels: The River in G
One of the more gratifying aspects of my life is listening to music—especially at some outdoor waterfront locale, with a freshening breeze wafting across the river and the last dusting of the sunset settling over the trees. Fortunately for me, outdoor concerts abound around the Bay, but in my book nothing beats the Thursday night summer series at Muskrat Park in St. Michaels. When Clint and I received the roster of performers, which is printed well in advance, we saw that Them Eastport Oyster Boys would be coming to town. Since St. Michaels is just a toot down the river for us, we decided to take a picnic dinner onboard our runabout Cookie and idle into Muskrat Cove to listen.
Muskrat Cove (some charts inexplicably call it Church Cove) lies between the St. Michaels Marina and Higgins Yacht Yard in St. Michaels harbor. It’s pretty shallow in there to begin with (about five feet) and gets even shallower as you edge toward shore, so taking a bigger boat is out of the question. Since Thursday nights are apt to be on the quiet side in St. Michaels, even during the summer, slips are generally available. If you wind up anchoring or berthing out of hearing distance, there’s plenty of “floor space” for listeners—just bring a blanket or a folding chair and set yourself up on the grass.
Working stiffs that we are, Clint and I had to finish our daily grind before we could motor out of Oak Creek. Even so, we had plenty of time for a scenic detour before heading toward town. First we nosed around Long Point Island and into Hunting Creek. This had been one of our hideaways when we still sailed our Invicta yawl on the Bay. The channel is narrow but deep, and there’s plenty of good holding. Although there are more houses than there used to be, they’re tucked behind thickets of foliage and set back from the marsh that lines the water’s edge. It would still be easy enough to anchor and have the world to ourselves. We cut the motor and just slid along, savoring the quiet. The Miles River beyond was riffled by the barest of breezes, but the creek was smooth as glass. Blue herons poked around the shallows, an eagle soared high above us and in the distance we could hear the staccato beat of a woodpecker drilling for its dinner. A slash in the water ahead of us revealed a water snake aiming pellmell for shore, its body an undulating ess across the top of the water. That was enough to break the spell for Clint (he’s not a big snake fan). He pushed the starter and headed us out of there.
The concerts start at 6:30 p.m., more or less promptly. Often we’re treated to local talent, of which there’s plenty—from bluegrass to jazz to original folk. Them Eastport Oyster Boys (namely Jeff Holland and Kevin Brooks) come from Annapolis, bringing with them a lively repertoire of original music derived from lifetimes of messing around in boats and cruising the Bay. They poke fun at all things nautical, from deck shoes to cockpit cuisine. But they also add a song here and there designed to get their listeners thinking about the way the Bay has changed over the years. And of course they get everyone clapping and singing and generally carrying on.
We scooted past the boats anchored off Parrot Point—not many midweek—and past the folks cracking crabs on the outside deck at the Crab Claw. We steered clear of the big sight-seeing boat, the Patriot, as she gave a long pull on her horn and started to back out of her slip near the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, readying for a sunset cruise. Finally, we cut the engine and drifted toward Muskrat Park until we grounded on the silt of the cove bottom. Lots of folks had gathered on land for the concert. They crowded the picnic tables scattered in the park or lounged on the grass surrounding the Victorian gazebo that shelters the performers. Kids climbed on the pair of cannons that aim benignly into the harbor—vestiges, we’re told, of the War of 1812, when marauding English warships threatened Bay-front towns. It was a largely local crowd. The St. Michaels Community Center (which sponsors the weekly concert series with support from local businesses and the town) deliberately chose Thursday nights so residents could enjoy a show without being overwhelmed by weekenders.
Clint popped the cork on the wine we brought. I deftly held out a pair of goblets for him to fill, and we settled down to enjoy the music. The breeze from the river freshened as the sun drifted down. We could almost hear the barreled tones of Jeff’s baritone ukulele and the twang of Kevin’s banjitar.
But wait! What’s this? Concert organizer Marianne Jackson was standing at the gazebo with Kevin Brooks, and she was saying . . . No concert? Bummer! Tonight of all nights Jeff Holland’s car had conked out on the way to St. Michaels, and he was hard aground somewhere on Route 50. The show, she promised, would be rescheduled.
Clint pushed the starter button once again, and we puttered out of the harbor. Oh, well. The night was fine for a run up the river, and in no time at all we were angling through the Miles River bridge and into the channel beyond. The evening offered up a symphony of its own as the sunset doused the trees with color and the beat of an osprey’s wings set a lazy rhythm. Them Eastport Oyster Boys would have been great fun, but this would do just as well, we were thinking as we hummed along.

my interpretation of this poem:
it’s almost a poem of grandeur of self. as if you are on such a different plane as others (your peers) that you dont have to prove or fight for proof of your individuality cos you know that it already exists with in you. so instead of making your importance known (cos you don’t care who knows) you just run away so you can know your self more and to love your self more.
i also, think that you believe that you can’t get disappointed in what more there is to discover in you. i think upon discovery you will be pleased of that you’ll find (this is what you believe)

Nice update on the 1220 series
I’ve got the last two of the 1220 series and find the 1225 much like the others. The shoe provides a blend of lot’s of support and lot’s of cushioning. I also like the fact that New Balance offers a size 15. So many of the different running shoes seem to run pretty small anymore and I’ve found that I have to keep going up to get a shoe that fits.

Excellent for people with mild to over pronator feet like myself. I had the 1224 and were great too! but somewhat better the 1225, more cushioning and support! The only negative on these shoes: they wear quite fast (I run 40KM or 25Miles/week)… but the feeling while you run with these shoes doesn’t have a match (like walking on pillows)!!! I really recommend them!! better if you use them with the NB support insoles (sold separately).

Good shoe, comfortable, not super durable.
I ran in these for about 7 months before they really started to break down. They were great as far as fit and comfort, but being a bigger runner (6’2 and 240lbs), I think I just wore them out. I don’t expect to get a lifetime out of a pair of running shoes, but these fell apart a little quicker than I expected. They had good support and fit, just not longevity. I am switching to a pair of Brooks Beast’s, hopefully the extra weight will mean more durability.

I have wide feet and am 6′-4′, 240, so need lots of cushioning. I use these mainly for trail runs/light hiking and these blow away every other pair of shoes I have ever owned. Very light weight and breathable. Am buying several more pairs as I can’t believe how comfortable they are. Durability for trails isn’t the best (but I’m not complaining). NB makes great products and I’ve always loved their wide range of styles/sizes. As such, will remain a loyal buyer.

Great stability shoes right out of the box
I am extremely satisfied with the 1225′s. Right out of the box I found them extremely comfortable and ready to go. I took them out for a 7 mile run and thought they were great. Excellent cushioning, but not too soft and definitely not too hard on each footfall. I tend to suffer from shin splints and I think these shoes have helped me stabilize my gait and neutralize my shin splints. I also really like the styling (shoe laces do not come undone), color scheme and reflecting features (good for night running). I highly recommend them if you’re someone who needs a stability shoe or even if you are a mild to medium overpronator who needs a stable but not heavy shoe.

The New Balance MR1222-1225 series were recommended by a foot doctor. I use them for walking, not running. They are very well made and last a long time. What shoes, any brand, are best for long distance running?
I’m looking for a shoe that has good cushion & support, I do alot of long distance running, my weekly mileage is about 27 right now. I’ve tried the Brooks GT8 (which didn’t wear out so quickly but were quite bulky) and recently used a pair of Mizuno Wave Elixirs which have worn out VERY quickly. Thanks in advance.
Also, I run in trails most of the time but I also run on pavement so that versatlitiy is essential thanks y’all.
I find that the best way to find the right shoe fit and the right shoe for your routine is to go to a local shoe store and have the experts take a look at your feet. [Aardvark in PA is EXCELLENT] I know that might seem a bit weird – but some people actually can tell by the print you’ve left on your previous pair of shoes what kind of shoe is best for you. I love my Asics (they come in many different styles, so really, you should check out the experts at an athletics store- they can tell you what support your feet need for your distance/events)

But–what you want to know–is it the place to shop for fitness equipment?
The answer is yes, but that’s if you don’t mind sifting and, in most cases, bidding. On a given day in June 2003, there were 1,026,771 items listed under the “Sports” category; and there were 344,705 items in the “Sporting Goods” subcategory, which is broken down into more than three-dozen subcategories. Under “Exercise & Fitness,” a “Sporting Goods” subcategory, there were 7,146 items. And that subcategory is divided up into six subcategories. Hope you’re not too confused.
On that given June day, I took a look at several fitness products sold on eBay. I wanted to find out how low prices on new (never been used) popular or quality products go on this mega auction site. The good news: They can go pretty low.
One product I examined was Total Trainer, and there are several models listed on eBay. I zeroed in on the 3000 model, which is supposed to be comparable to the Brinkley- and Norris- endorsed Total Gym 3000. On eBay, Total Trainer is offered in two pricing formats: Name your own or Buy It Now (skip the auction process) for $277. Off eBay, Total Gym retails for, on average, $500.
But that should come as no big surprise, since any highly unsaturated oil will do that, particularly if substituted for saturated fats.

The last product I checked out was Jolie Weights, one-pound attachable fitness shoe weights introduced this spring by Jolie World. At http://JolieWeights.com, these weights cost $19.99. An independent eBay seller was auctioning them for $14.99. That’s a 25 percent savings. Plus, shipping/handling charges are exactly the same.
The bottom line is: You will find some good deals on eBay. But there are a good number of duds there too. The best advice? Do your research before buying. Compare prices; read the fine print; ask the seller whether it’s a discontinued or irregular product; and be vigilant of bloated shipping/handling charges (a common practice among eBay sellers). A final tip: before buying anything, read the seller’s reviews, where buyers post their positive or negative shopping experiences. If the eBay seller has too many negatives, then you may want to pass on the deal. If the seller seems legitimate, and you’ve confirmed it’s a steal, jump on it.
