How long are good running shoes supposed to last you?
I just bought some Asics Nimbus 9s. I used to buy New Balance 992s, but I feel these are better shoes. Anyway, how long before I’m “supposed” to get new ones? I hear it’s about 500 miles.
Most shoes are designed to last between 400 – 600 miles. Some shoes don’t last as long as others. I personally find Asics a good buy in both comfort and durablity. They seem to last longer then anything I have tried.
Sucony Trigons, well just sucked, they were worn out in about 6 weeks. I triend some Nike’s they did a bit better, the New Balance 1061′s did me pretty good in terms of comfort. Right now I am trying some Nike’s as the new Asics are not as comfortable as the older ones to me.

15 Tips To Stay Fit
Get some tips about working out right
1. Stop and Go
Full sprint would strain the muscle of your lower body. This is to be kept in mind if you plan to go for a sport requiring full sprint. To fight this drawback, stop-and-go exercises are the best. For an instance, run 30 meters with about 80% of the effort, then slow to jogging for about 5 to 10 meters, and then run again another 30 meters. You can repeat this procedure about five times.
2. Bended knees
About three out of 4 ACL injuries occur when players turn or land. According to Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, JAAOS, when your knees are bent, instead of being straight, the injury risk is reduced greatly reduced.
3. Cool Down
You cannot cure a heatstroke like you do with some minor headache. Stay cool and well hydrated to avoid the same. Ensure about the combined temperature and humidity is lesser than 160 as stated by Dr. Dave Janda of IPSM
4. Getting proper equipment
Ill sized equipment or badly fitting gears could cause training injuries. Money that is spent extra goes a long way, on proper equipments.
5. Doing it rightly
Bad technique is equally bad as bad equipment. Gain good advice from trainers and various pros as they would act invaluable to your training or exercises.
6. Going west; whatsoever is the direction
When you are training or playing in several directions, you must warm-up yourself initially. Moving backward, forward, sideways or any motion you would actually do. This would prepare your body right.
7. Film yourself up
Cameras and mirrors do not lie. Showing video to people who are well versed about your training would assist in your fitness program.
8. Loosen the shoulders
Your shoulder functions could be shut down even in cases of a slightly manipulative rotator cuff. You could include stretching for protecting the rotator cuffs.
9. Take a dip early.
Ensure to schedule early sessions of swimming. Less people within the pool would mean less contamination.
10. Protect yourself
Wearing customized mouth-guards would reduce risk of various injuries by up to 82 percent as per study at UNC, Chapel Hill. Push up some cash for a customized mouth guard and it would last for several years ensuring good teeth and smile.
11. Smooth out your muscle
Collect information on ultrasound needle therapy. In this therapy, ultrasound is used to guide the needle. Ultrasound would smooth the bone, break-up calcifications and fix the scar tissue. Thirteen from twenty patients have seen improvement. This session would take only about 15 minutes.
12. Buying running shoes in the evening
Shopping in the evening is always a good idea. It is usually after the entire days work when the feet gets swollen equivalent to a situation after 3 miles of running.
13. Off Road running
When the surface is not stable, the ankles are trained to be stable.
14. Know where to go.
Whether skiing or biking, make sure about a knowing the path first. Injuries could be avoided when one is familiar with the taken route.
15. Train hard.
According to the article in Journal of Sports Sciences, anxiety would reduce the peripheral vision by 3 degrees and would slow down reaction time by about 120 milliseconds. When the going becomes tough, the veteran athlete relies on skill they practiced and trained. It helps in keeping cool during pressure, by widening vision so that they could see and react faster.

How do running shoes differ?
Is the gap between regular running shoes and great running shoes that great? I currently have regular adidas running shoes but I might want a pair of Men’s ASICS GEL-1130. I’m wondering if it will help a lot of not.
They are not going to help your running.
What is important is how the shoes fit and feel to you.
Any good shoe is going to work.
I can not tell the difference between reasonably priced quality shoes and expensive shoes.

Choosing the Best Diabetic Shoe
Diabetics often suffer foot-related ailments which can detract from their quality of life and lead to serious medical complications. It is strongly recommended that diabetics wear shoes specifically designed for their needs in order to avoid potential problems such as infection and even, in extreme cases, amputation. Specially designed diabetic shoes will decrease the likelihood of blisters and ulcers which can escalate into dangerous infections. Here are a few recommendations for selecting the diabetic shoe that’s right for you. Step 1: Visit a podiatrist. All feet are unique. A qualified podiatrist can identify any foot irregularities that require special attention. They will be able to advise you on what type of shoe you require. Medicare will cover one pair of diabetic shoes and 3 sets orthotic inserts each calendar year. Talk with your doctor about the next steps for covering those costs. Step 2: Look for comfort and support. Once you understand your particular needs, you can start shopping. The shoe you select should have the following features:
Extra depth. Diabetic footwear should be deeper than standard shoes so that you can include custom insoles. Orthotic insoles are an integral part of diabetic foot care and, as mentioned earlier, are also covered by Medicare.
Good ventilation. A proper diabetic shoe must be breathable. Moist heat is a breeding ground for bacteria and should be avoided at all costs.
Seamless, lightweight construction. A heavy shoe with protruding seams can lead to irritation.
Arch support.Shoes for diabetics must have proper arch support. This aids in weight distribution and alleviates pressure point pain.
Room for your toes. Most diabetic shoes are available in different widths to accommodate all types of feet. The width of the shoe should fit the ball of your foot comfortably, while the shoe’s toe box should be high and durable to minimize stubbing.
A perfect-fitting heel. The heel should be snug, not tight, to avoid excessive rubbing.
Thick sole. Make sure your shoe has a thick sole to act as a shock absorber.
Style. Just because you are diabetic, doesn’t mean you have to wear ugly shoes. Diabetic shoes are available in a wide variety of styles including sandals, loafers, casual dress, slippers, Mary Janes, walking, and running shoes. Choose a shoe that fits your style and personality.
Step 3: Get the right accessories. Be sure to stock up on seamless socks for diabetics and at least three sets of custom orthotic insoles. These critical accessories take your comfort to the highest level. Step 4: Now get moving. Exercise is especially important to diabetics. Now that you have the right shoes, don’t be afraid to use them.
Note: This information is not intended to supplement or replace advice from a medical professional, or to diagnose or treat any condition.

Is it better to have a shoe too long or too narrow?
You just bought a nice pair of Nike 11's in line, but they seem to run a little longer than expected. I have a sort of feet wider than the width is good, but theres about an inch additional space beyond my toes. Probably to get the s 10.5 'but I hope there are not too narrow. I guess I wonder if it is preferable to a casual walk around too long or shoes a bit narrow.

Since you do two middle distace races and one sprinting race, you should get the Nike Milers. They only come in men’s so to convert womans sizes to mens just subtract 1.5 sizes, you would be a mens 6.5.
Hope this helps and good luck this season!

I want to run a marathon?
One of my goals in life is to run a marathon. I am a runner, i normally run 5K every other day. But over the past year i have always had problems with my knees and my hips.
Last year i decided to stretch my run, and ended up running 7 miles, because i got talking to someone on my run. Anyway turns out i did my both knees in and was out for about 4 months. They have only just healed recently, but i have been wearing knee braces. I ran the other day the first time in 4 months with my braces on and everything felt fine.
I was wondering what would be a good way to build up to marathon level without damaging my knees or hips.
Also are there any dietry helps that would support bone strength and muscle. I am a vegetarian, so meat is out of the question. I wear Asics Nimbus Gel running shoes. Before my run, i always walk a mile then stretch, do my run, then walk a mile to cool down, then stretch again. Any help would be appreciated.
You sound like you’re on the right track but running itself is hard on the knees and it gets worse as you get older. Treadmills are supposed to be the worst so if you can, try running on a softer surface when possible like a bunch of laps around a soccer field. Running on the beach is tough and seems like nothing kills your muscles like it so that’s a great workout as well. When you ran last year the 7 miles, thats more than a 10K since a 10K is about 6.26 miles. Training for a marathon is tough. Start off slower with different distances then work your way up. Work your way up to doing a 10K, then when your comfortable, try running half marathons, and finally when you’re ready go for the full marathon. It’s important to lift weights as well, especially your abs and legs and don’t forget your calves since they’re often the most neglected leg muscles. You said it yourself: don’t forget to always stretch and do cooldowns. Try doing some rotations as well of your joints to get the synovial fluid going beforehand. But also give your joints a break every so often. If you’re training everyday, running those long distances, maybe even every other day instead just do some cardio on a machine like an ellipitical or a bike which is low impact. Give yourself a long grueling workout but give your knees a break.
As far as equipment goes, if the knee braces work for you, stick with it. Sometimes my knees get sore when I run a lot and I think jumpers kneestraps help me. Maybe they can help you too?
As far as diet goes, you can’t stress enough the importance of calcium in your diet for strong bones. Try some omega-3 oil or tablets and or fish oil since that’s good for your joints as well. Keep on truckin!

Asics Kayano 15? Suitable For High Arches?
Today I purchased a pair of Asics Kayano 15′s and they feel pretty comfortable. However, I have very high arches and tend to run on the ball of my foot. I run everyday so I need to know if this shoe is suitable. The sales assistant was absolutely noooo help whatsoever. I also have about an inch of space between my big toe and the front of the shoe. I’m worried this is way too much. Help?
Thankyou:)
Find out what the return policy is first.
Then go try them out. Rack Room Shoes for example won’t take the shoes back if you’ve run them outside…but there’s really no way to tell.
Roadrunner shoes and some online places take them back no questions asked.
The first test should have been putting them on in the store and running 4 lengths of the store aisle with them. If you feel ANY pressure points at all that cannot be alleviated without adjusting the laces or socks, find another pair of shoes. You can pretty much find a perfect fit 95% of the time with this method and it’s very cost effective when used in the clearance aisle. Name brand means nothing if a tiny discomfort in the store turns into a bleeding blister at mile 3 on a tempo run.
Suitability depends on the type of running you do. Kayano 15′s are a good shoe — but you might require additional arch support. Use the ‘starter’ brand arch support no-show socks at wal-mart. $4 for 6 pair.
